Advantages of ball gatherer robot compared to slow feeder

  1. Slow feeder system can be installed only on a constant level furnace that excludes day-tanks and pot furnaces.
     
  2. From this first principle, the possibility of working with colour glass is very limited.
     
  3. Putting a feeder into operation is long and difficult to realise by an operator.
    It comprises ring clearing, gob regulation and thermal stabilisation of the feeder.
    This period practically does not exist with the ball gatherer robot.
     
  4. These disadvantages of the feeder are very important when the production is not done in three shifts (3x8).
     
  5. Each machine stop for maintenance, breakdown or production change, causes important glass losses.
     
  6. With a very slow speed there is a necessity to flow down a glass trickle and to make a pre-gob before being able to effect the right gob.
     
  7. With one size of ring the range of weight of glass gob is much more limited than with one size of gathering ball. So there is less flexibility with a gob feeder.
     
  8. The glass shape that you can obtain is much more limited due to passing through a ring. This fact eliminates production of big flat articles which require spreading out of glass in the mould.
     
  9. Glass weight capacity is bigger with a ball gatherer robot.
     
  10. With a feeder you are obliged to work in the range of lower temperatures which is inconvenient for production of some glass articles and sometimes for glass technology since the phenomena’s of deglazing can appear on the feeder.
     
  11. The most beautiful glass articles has been hand made till now.
    So, surface heterogeneity does not constitute a particular problem.
